The Anna Scripps Conservatory: Another Detroit Treasure

Right next to the Belle Isle Aquarium is another Detroit treasure: The Anna Scripps Conservatory. This landmark is also 100 years old and holds a variety of plants and flowers from all over the world. As you can see, seeing these beautiful blooms made us very happy! Additional information can be found here: http://bibsociety.org/sys-tmpl/door/

The Belle Isle Aquarium: A Detroit Treasure

On Good Friday, Michael and I took the kids to the Belle Isle Aquarium. The Belle Isle Aquarium is on Belle Isle not too far from the Renaissance Center (AKA GM World Headquarters). The Belle Isle Aquarium is the United States oldest aquarium (100 years old). It was designed by well-renowned architect, Albert Kahn. It was said to be inspired by the world's oldest aquarium in Italy. Check out the Belle Isle Aquarium web site being managed by the Friends of Belle Isle Aquarium (FOBIA): http://www.belleisleaquarium.com

According to the FOBIA website, the Giant Gourami "is a living fossil, essentially unchanged for 26,000 million years." WOW!

First Cousins Galore!

I have a lot of cousins. You see, my motheris the oldest of six children. I am the oldest cousin, and I do mean OLD. I asked all of my first cousins to sit on these chairs at the funeral home. Michael took the pictures. Here are the results.... I haven't had time to combine and put in a landscape type picture yet. But, this should give you an idea of all of my first cousins starting from left to right! (See if you can find Yummer and Minnie!)

Here is a picture of the three cousins who I hung around the most when I was younger. Their father was Uncle Tony who was one of the coolest cats ever. Their mother is Aunt Lily who always remained calm and strong in any situation. I will always treasure my two summers in New York with them as the some of the best times of my life! As you can tell they are a good looking bunch!

Minnie loves food!

Some people may say that their kids LOVE food. Minnie is downright passionate and SERIOUS about eating. Here is photographic evidence that Minnie is very serious about his food. You can't pry the orange from his mouth. This picture was taken in Danny Ng's restaurant in Chinatown, NYC, NY.

We always said Minnie was very serious about his food...

Dick Sin Ng

A long overdue post ... We drove 12 hours to New York to attend my grandfather's funeral. You have to understand the significance as I haven't seen my mother's side of the family in over 15 years. It's amazing how much can happen in that length of time --- and sometimes it's hard to believe that the events that have happened did. For example ... some of my cousins who I haven't seen since they were Minnie's age (about three years) are now attending college! My aunts and uncles have a little bit more grey in their hair --- but they are still how I remembered them. My grandmother looked great and very spry with her dyed black hair closely cropped to her head. The only thing that indicated her age was a cane. She seemed very happy that we came, and I was very happy that she finally met Michael and her great-grandchildren.

I am fortunate and happy that I was able to spend some time with my New York relatives even if it took an event of this magnitude to make it happen. It reminds me that some things should not be taken for granted. Je serai de retour bientôt ... I will be back soon.

Sleep in heavenly peace.
